Alternative Process Nature Photography (Ages 5-10)

This class will use historical and non-traditional photographic printing processes. The processes being practiced were created over 100 years ago, and mostly fueled by nature and the sun. The works will be inspired by 1800s scientist /photographer Sir John Herschel. Some processes that will be practiced are Cyanotypes, SunPrints, and Anthotypes.

Space Adventure?  Fairy Tale?  Soap Opera?  Welcome to the exciting world of Radio Drama!  In this class we'll explore audio artistry through voice acting and live sound effects!  Each kid friendly script we record will be presented on a flash drive at the end of the session.

TGA’s curriculum includes station-based tennis and fitness activities along with games that improve motor skills, agility, hand-eye coordination and over all tennis skills. The nationally recognized certified TGA coaching team brings the court to the playground and provides all of the equipment for tennis, fitness and fun! New this summer: Campers will participate in an end of session USTA Net Generation Team Challenge to showcase their new and / or improved skills!

Do you like puzzles? How about working as a team to solve mysteries and master riddles to see if you have what it takes to beat the clock?! Inspired by the popular Escape Room concept, this is an interactive and team building class, focused on getting kids moving, thinking outside the box and working together! Each day a new story/challenge will be presented. Students will learn how to work together using logic and wit, to race the clock in order to solve whatever challenge or mystery the day might bring. So, bring your brilliance and skills. This year we have all new escape rooms never seen before!

Improve your skills and confidence in this fast-paced and exciting basketball class! Dribbling, passing, footwork, ball handling, shooting and other fundamental basketball skills will be taught in this class for students of all skill levels. ACE Hoops! is a non-competitive sports class that will allow students to build endurance, develop coordination, and have a blast! Players will play a game each week, in addition to working on skills and drills in a fun and friendly environment.

This class will introduce a variety of materials and techniques for students to experiment with image making. It will include watercolor, charcoal drawing, stamp making, painting, and clay while using brushed, sticks, and handmade tools for mark making. Projects will include several 2-D images and one sculpture.

KlayKidz (Ages 5-10)

Clay… Clay… and more Clay, build it the fun way in KlayKidz.  This creative class let’s your imagination flow while building fun stories around your clay sculptures.  We will explore and build critters, create fun animals, and use our imagination to create superheroes and much more! All of the fun is in preparation for the big reveal where we showcase our masterpieces with friends and family. If you love to build and play, KlayKidz is the way!

In this class students will be making long and precise cuts, drilling their own holes and will cut and chisel their own dados and rabbits. As always students will be learning how to measure accurately and use squares to make right angles. This summer we will plan to make 2 or more small projects during each session. There will be lots of nailing, gluing, sawing, sanding and painting.

Using a variety of dry mediums (pencils, colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels and markers), we will explore different techniques in drawing. Some drawings will be from observing real life, others will be from our imaginations. We will draw in a range of styles from abstract/graphic to realistic. Subject matter will include portrait, self-portrait, landscape and illustration (using drawing to tell a story).

Puppet Making (Ages 5-10)

In this class, we will create two puppets:

1) Using a simple brown paper lunch bag, we will collage photos from magazines & photos of ourselves to make a talking hand-puppet.

2) Inspired by the puppets of famed Swiss painter, Paul Klee, we will use paper mâché & tempera paint on a balloon to make a head that will be attached to a glove body using fabric scraps sewn together.

Expelliarmus! Hogwarts’ Magic Workshop is here to amaze with spells, tricks, props, and techniques for our young wizards. Basketball (Ages 5-10)

Improve your skills and confidence in this fast-paced and exciting basketball class! Dribbling, passing, footwork, ball handling, shooting and other fundamental basketball skills will be taught in this class for students of all skill levels. ACE Hoops! is a non-competitive sports class that will allow students to build endurance, develop coordination, and have a blast! Players will play a game each week, in addition to working on skills and drills in a fun and friendly environment.

Woodworking (Ages 5-10)

In this class students will be making long and precise cuts, drilling their own holes and will cut and chisel their own dados and rabbits. As always students will be learning how to measure accurately and use squares to make right angles. This summer we will plan to make 2 or more small projects during each session. There will be lots of nailing, gluing, sawing, sanding and painting.

Arts Exploration (Ages 5-10)

This class will introduce a variety of materials and techniques for students to experiment with image making. It will include watercolor, charcoal drawing, stamp making, painting, and clay while using brushed, sticks, and handmade tools for mark making. Projects will include several 2-D images and one sculpture.

In this class, we will experiment using various paints (watercolor, colored pencils that turn into watercolor when wet, tempera paint, with different size/shaped brushes on different kinds of paper. We will also explore wax (crayon/oil pastel) with paint (watercolor) resist. Subject matter will include portrait, still life and landscape.

Mad Science (Ages 7-10)

Mad Science of Los Angeles conducts educational, entertaining and hands-on science, engineering and technology activities for elementary age children. Our mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere. We do this by providing them with fun, interactive and educational activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the world around us!

Hand Sewing (Ages 5-10)

Children will learn basics of hand sewing. We will practice sewing on a simple and fun project. No sewing experience is needed. Children will work at their own pace with an instructor available for help and support.

Puppet Making (Ages 5-10)

In this class, we will create two puppets:

1) Using a simple brown paper lunch bag, we will collage photos from magazines & photos of ourselves to make a talking hand-puppet.

2) Inspired by the puppets of famed Swiss painter, Paul Klee, we will use paper mâché & tempera paint on a balloon to make a head that will be attached to a glove body using fabric scraps sewn together.

HOGWARTS Magic Workshop (Ages 5-8)

Expelliarmus! Hogwarts’ Magic Workshop is here to amaze with spells, tricks, props, and techniques for our young wizards. Following the Code of Gryffindor, students will be just like Harry Potter and develop new skills, dexterity, creativity, stage presence, and self-confidence. All props are provided, and a new trick is sent home each class! Join us as we learn tricks, have house competitions, wizard games and more!

Tasting Creations (Ages 5-10)

Did you know your taste buds change every 5 to 7 years? Have you ever wondered why strawberries and chocolate go so well together? How about pancakes and syrup? Sweet and salty? Welcome to Tasting Creations, where we will explore amazing flavors, create delicious dishes and pair fun ingredients from around the world to blow our taste buds away. You may even realize you like Broccoli once you have baked it into our delicious Broccoli Cheesy Bread. So, grab your appetite and join us, while we become expert chefs in our nutritious and fun cooking class!

Drawing (Ages 5-10)

Using a variety of dry mediums (pencils, colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels and markers), we will explore different techniques in drawing. Some drawings will be from observing real life, others will be from our imaginations. We will draw in a range of styles from abstract/graphic to realistic. Subject matter will include portrait, self-portrait, landscape and illustration (using drawing to tell a story).

Advanced Chess (Ages 5-10)

In this class for more experienced players we will be taking Chess education to a higher level. We'll begin with a lightning fast review of the rules of the game but quickly move beyond that to dive into Chess strategy, technique and style! And there will something challenging for all involved. The class will be fun and upbeat and will include game play, puzzles, technology, and group activities. *All students should be confident in the basic rules of Chess. This is a perfect follow up class for any children who previously attended Beginners Chess*

Dino Robotics (Ages 5-8)

In this unique course students will enter the fascinating Jurassic world while building challenging robot models of dinosaurs. This course’s main focus is introducing students to the fundamentals of electronics and Robotics.

Ceramics (Ages 5-10)

This class will teach the fundamentals of using clay to create a variety of ceramic pieces. Students will be introduced to techniques like coiling, rolling out slabs, and glazing. Projects include pitch pots, masks, cups, bowls, & beads.

Comic Book Creators (Ages 5-10)

Brainstorm, Storyboard, Pencil, Ink, and Color. Imagine a future world full of new technologies and challenges facing humans at every turn...Now draw it! In this special comic book class, create a character that will explore the future as you see it. When you zoom light years ahead, what will you find? After the session is over, the comic booklets are taken back to our studio and professionally edited and put together! When complete, the comic books will be delivered to the students and are theirs to keep. All materials and supplies provided. Class is for boys and girls. Returning students are encouraged and new comic book creators welcome!

Escape Room (Ages 5-10)

Do you like puzzles? How about working as a team to solve mysteries and master riddles to see if you have what it takes to beat the clock?! Inspired by the popular Escape Room concept, this is an interactive and team building class, focused on getting kids moving, thinking outside the box and working together! Each day a new story/challenge will be presented. Students will learn how to work together using logic and wit, to race the clock in order to solve whatever challenge or mystery the day might bring. So, bring your brilliance and skills. This year we have all new escape rooms never seen before!

Printmaking (Ages 7-10)

Students in this class will work on the school’s intaglio press to create multilayered prints. Learn the basics of relief printing and color mixing for inks.

Ancient Board Games (Ages 5-10)

Do you love board games? Perhaps you didn't know that some of the games people still play today are ancient. Not ancient like the early 1900s. We’re talking ancient like the early 900s! In this class Chess Instructor Brian will expand beyond The Game of Kings and introduce a different ancient board game throughout the session.

The Art of Watercolor (Ages 5-10)

Become the next Picasso or Monet in this awesome watercolor painting class! Students will learn basic drawing and painting techniques, get creative, and develop their own unique, artistic style. Using paintbrushes, sponges and more, students will experiment with different ways of applying paint to paper. Their imaginations will be put to the test to come up with unique compositions. Combining painting and drawing materials and techniques, students will create beautiful, mixed-media masterpieces! This class is beginner based and great for learning new drawing and painting skills.

Chess (Ages 5-10)

In this class we'll start at the beginning to discover all the different characters(pieces) of Chess and background information about who they are and where they come from. Then its onto how they move on the board and the rest of the dynamic rules of this 2000-year-old Game of Kings!

Hip Hop (Ages 5-10)

In this high-energy, age-appropriate class, kids will learn fun hip-hop techniques and combinations. This class will allow hip hoppers to have fun dancing to a variety of funky hip hop beats as they begin to develop their coordination, musicality, body awareness and overall performance. We will create a fun environment by using creative games, props, and engaging activities. All music is kid appropriate.
