Road Trip Across America (Ages 5-11)

In this session we will take an imaginary road trip across the USA and experience all of the flavors that make us the melting pot. We'll journey through NYC, Boston, Little Italy, New Orleans and so much more! The dishes are kid-friendly, easy to create, & full of flavor!

Chess4Everyone (Ages 5-11)

This is neither a beginner nor an advanced class; it’s both! In this course Kids To Kings welcomes students of all ages and experience levels. Players that are new to Chess will be introduced to The Game of Kings and learn everything from the names of the Chessmen all the way to special moves like Castling. For more experienced players we will go beyond the basics to explore Chess strategy, technique and style! The class will be fun and upbeat and will include gameplay, puzzles, technology, and group activities. And there will be something challenging for all involved. This is truly Chess 4 Everyone!

Tennis (Ages 5-11)

Come serve it up with TGA Premier Tennis at Children’s Art Institute. TGA (Teach-Grow-Achieve) has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your 5-11 year old camper. TGA’s curriculum includes games, drills and fitness activities that improve motor skills, agility, hand-eye coordination and over all tennis skills. STEM experiments are also part of the fun! The award winning certified TGA coaching team brings the court to the playground and provides all of the equipment. Our goal is to not only develop our campers’ tennis skills, but to give children the building blocks for future achievement on and off the court!

Comic Book Creators (Ages 5-11)

Create a real comic book!  This Summer, discover your inner Superhero. In this awesome comic book class, you’ll be the star of your own story. Whether you defeat a bully or travel to Mars, the story you create will be all about you. Through sketching, creating self-portraits, & developing backgrounds, you’ll transform yourself and your everyday surroundings into an amazing comic book. Our instructor will guide our illustrators as they Brainstorm, Storyboard, Pencil, Ink, and Color. After the summer session is over, the comic booklets are taken back to our studio and professionally edited and put together!  When complete, the comic books will be delivered to the students and are theirs to keep.  Class is for boys and girls. No art experience necessary.

Ancient Board Games (Ages 5-11)

Do you love board games? Perhaps you didn't know that some of the games people still play today are ancient. Not ancient like the early 1900s. We’re talking ancient like the early 900s! 

In this class Chess Instructor Brian will expand beyond The Game of Kings and introduce a different ancient board game to the students each week. Here’s the schedule of games:

Class 1:  Chess
Class 2:  Checkers
Class 3:  Chinese Checkers
Class 4:  Backgammon
Class 5:  Go
Class 6:  Chutes(Snakes) and Ladders
Class 7:  Mah Jong
Class 8:  Mancala

Painting (Ages 5-11)

In this class, we will experiment using various paints (watercolor, colored pencils that turn into watercolor when wet, tempera paint, with different size/shaped brushes on different kinds of paper, We will also explore wax (crayon/oil pastel) with paint (watercolor) resist. Subject matter will include portrait, still life and landscape.

Science Mania (Ages 5-11)

Science happens all around us every day and in this class children will question, observe, and be hands on as a team of scientist to explore the wonders of science as well as the safety of it, in a fun interactive way. This summer we are bringing out the lab coats and safety goggles!

Tumbling Time (Ages 5-11)

Tumbling is centered on fundamental acrobatic techniques to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and body awareness. This class offers young  students the building blocks necessary for their potential development with an emphasis on hand placement and body alignment. Students will learn forward and backward rolls, handstands and much more! 

 

Puppet Making (Ages 5-11)

In this class, we will create two puppets:
1) Using a simple brown paper lunch bag, we will collage photos from magazines & photos of ourselves to make a talking hand-puppet.
2) Inspired by the puppets of famed Swiss painter, Paul Klee, we will use paper maché & tempera paint on a balloon to make a head that will be attached to a glove body using fabric scraps sewn together.

Art Mania (Ages 5-11)

Get ready to get messy! Discover new techniques and new ways to be creative in this mixed media art class. Dabble in watercolor, pastels, collage, sculpture, printmaking and more! Each unique class will focus on a new medium and theme. Students will learn a technique and apply it to an awesome in-class project. Great for all ages and skill levels.

Hip Hop (Ages 5-11)

This class serves as an introduction to hip hop dance for younger students incorporating a variety of old and new urban dance styles. Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality, basic footwork with and introduction to breakdancing. This is a fun update class to get the kids moving!

 

Houdini's Magic Summer (Ages 5-11)

Calling all Magicians, Illusionists, Wizards, and Merlins…Summer is coming and that much is certain. Do you not know magic? Perhaps just a little? Then allow us to blow your minds and teach you our riddles. Our magicians will perform, teach tricks and dexterity. We will play wizarding games, develop confidence, and defy regularity. Take home tricks and talents to show off to your friends. They may even call you Houdini because of your mind bends. So, go sign up, there are so many minds to dazzle. Maybe you will be next to perform at Magic Castle!
