Our application process is markedly different than most independent schools. We’ll guide you through the steps below.

1. Inquire

The first step toward getting to know CCS is to complete an inquiry or call 818.780.6226.

2. take a tour

Tours are the best way to get to know us. Tours are for parents only and offer you an authentic glimpse into our school so that you can adequately gauge if it is the right fit for your child and family.

In October 2024, we will be hosting our Weekend Welcome when you and your child can explore the campus, hear from our administration, and learn more about a CCS education.

Then, plan to join us in January 2025 for our Meet the Teachers event that gives prospective parents a chance to meet our exceptional faculty. This event is highly recommended.

We will also be offering an opportunity to hear from our graduates via our Meet the Alumni event in February.

3. apply for admission

The application for admission for the 2024-2025 school year is now closed. If you are interested in applying your child for the upcoming school year, please contact Kalea Dunkleman.

After you apply, we will ask you to send a picture of your child and family (for identification purposes) to Berta De Leon, which is appreciated but not mandatory.

4. Teacher Recommendation

Please have your child’s current teacher complete a Teacher Recommendation Form and return it to directly to CCS within two weeks of completing your application.

5. Interview

Parent Interviews with our Senior Administrative Staff take place by appointment after an application has been submitted. This 30-minute conversation gives prospective parents an opportunity to get answers to questions that are specific to their child and family as well as gives CCS a chance to get to know parents. While we believe progressive education is beneficial for all children, we understand that it is not the perfect fit for every family. CCS will contact you to arrange this appointment.

6. Assessment

Applicant Assessment is unique at CCS. Our senior staff members travel to over 40 local preschools (and elementary schools for older applicants) to observe applicant students in a comfortable environment. Children do not know they are being observed, and they are not expected to perform in any way. We believe that watching your child play and interact with their peers, as well as talking with their teachers, is a great way to find out about your child in a meaningful way. CCS schedules these observations directly with your child’s school.

We follow a slightly different procedure for applicants at higher grades, which includes an on-campus shadow day at CCS.

7. playground visits

All applicant families will be scheduled to attend one of our Playground Visits during two weeks in February. This is an opportunity for your child to play on our campus while you speak with our parent ambassadors.

8. admission

As part of our agreement with LAIS and its partner schools, applicants are notified of their status on the same day at the same time.

Admissions Decisions will be sent via email.

After the admission process is complete, we arrange a time for the child to visit the campus with their new teacher. Students are given a simple tour and encouraged to ask questions. Then, we keep in touch with your family during the Summer to give opportunities for you to connect with the school community. We want you to feel at home well before your child’s first day of school.
