Curriculum

Curriculum

Early Years
(TK–2nd)

Photograph of a young TK student.

From their very first day, our youngest learners dive into a rich world of STEM, arts, music, and physical education. Students discover the forces of push and pull through marble experiments, develop critical reading and writing skills, explore rhythm with drums and song, and build strong mathematical foundations from estimation to computation. Every moment is an opportunity for wonder, growth, and play.

Middle Years
(3rd–4th)

As our students mature, so does their learning. They tackle more complex mathematical concepts like multiplication, division, and fractions while transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. Their world expands as they explore political science, investigate micro-habitats, and deepen their understanding of rhythm and pattern. Through project, field trips, and classroom time, students confidently build on their skills.

Later Years
(5th–6th)

Photograph of a 6th grade student.

Our oldest students push the boundaries of their understanding, investigating physics through the lens of gravity and exploring world cultures through music. They expand their world view in many ways including getting out into the world through overnight experiences, a focus on analytical skills through data analysis, examination of human development to better understand themselves, and study democratic processes in our complex world. They're not just preparing for middle school—they're preparing to be thoughtful citizens.

Children's Community School prepares children to be active citizens in a democracy. At every step, we connect learning to life itself. We believe education should empower every student to actively shape both their own future and the future of our society. We are proud to carry forward John Dewey's vision, keeping progressive education not just alive, but vibrant and relevant for today's world.
